Update on Legislative Action

Today, a federal district court granted a preliminary injunction blocking SB 1, a South Carolina law to criminalize abortion after the detection of fetal cardiac activity. This ensures that abortion care continues to be legal in South Carolina. The law had been blocked under an emergency order that was set to expire on March 19. While the current injunction is temporary, ACOG South Carolina applauds the court’s action to ensure women can continue accessing needed reproductive health care as litigation continues.

The voices of hundreds of clinicians in South Carolina, across the spectrum of medicine, were made loud and clear to legislators and the public. Abortion is a needed component of healthcare for women. You can continue to take action by sharing the attached social media graphics to get the word out that because of the court’s action, abortion care is still legal in South Carolina. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.
